The East Milton Dental team would like to see a child when their first tooth arrives. Our goal is to make the child as comfortable as possible in the dental office and this involves making the office familiar place to them. Having the child visit the office when they get their first tooth also allows us to review some guidelines with parents and offer helpful hints to deal with teething and brushing. Baby teeth are important space holders for adult teeth. A cavity on a baby tooth spreads extremely fast in comparison to adult teeth and many times children have a hard time expressing when something is wrong in their mouth. East Milton Dental cares deeply about our children and we suggest frequent check-ups to make sure they stay as healthy as possible!
We offer both silver and white fillings. Each has their advantages and their place in dentistry. Silver fillings last longer, are more cost effective and are a great option for back teeth. White fillings are a fantastic restorative material for the front where esthetics is a concern, the fillings basically disappear! Every patient's condition is different therefore we will recommend what we think is best for your specific tooth and together we can make the decision as to what the best option is for you.
Bonding is a process where a tooth-colored material is strongly adhered to your tooth. It is done in only one appointment, often without freezing, and the results look great and can last a long time. Bonding can be done to close spaces, fix discolorations and repair chips and broken teeth.
A crown is a restoration that completely covers a tooth like a cap. Crowns can be made of porcelain, gold, or a combination of the two. The decision of what material is used is based on your individual tooth and bite. Crowns are used when a tooth is beyond repair with a filling. Crowns mimic the size and shape of a natural tooth and are custom made for you and your bite. If cared for properly crowns can last for many years. We pride ourselves on taking extra time to custom shade each porcelain crown to make sure they mimic your natural color.
A bridge literally bridges the gap created by missing teeth. It allows us to replace the missing tooth/teeth by using the teeth on either side of the gap as anchors and suspending a porcelain tooth between to fill the space. Bridges are basically two crowns with one or more replacement teeth connected in between. Bridges are non-removable.
Veneers are thin porcelain coverings bonded to the front surface of teeth. Veneers can be used to mask problems such as discolored teeth, slightly crooked teeth or to close spaces between teeth. May times veneers can be done without freezing and require very little tooth preparation and as few as two appointments.
Whitening is a safe and easy process to substantially whiten and brighten teeth. We offer both take home and in-office bleaching. The take home is a dentist-supervised procedure involving the fabrication of customized trays. The whitening process is accomplished at home with the use of a prescription strength whitening gel over a period of 2-3 weeks. The results can be quite dramatic.
Cosmetic recontouring involves the conservative reshaping of teeth. The procedure is painless and is completed without freezing. It can solve minor problems such as chipped teeth or mildly rotated teeth. Recontouring can help smooth jagged looking and/or feeling teeth into a beautifully smooth and natural smile.
A smile makeover dramatically enhances your smile utilizing one or more of the procedures mentioned here on the "Procedure" page. The treatment and outcomes are customized for each individual patient's needs and desires. Although appearances aren’t everything, we want to provide you with a smile you can share with confidence!
Dental implants are special posts that are placed in the upper or lower jaw to replace one or more missing teeth. They can be used to support crowns, bridges or dentures. The implant crowns, bridges and dentures that are secured with implants are extremely strong and long lasting. If you have missing teeth, spaces in your smile or if you have loose dentures, implants may be the solution you’ve been looking for.
Dentures and Partial Dentures
At East Milton Dental we offer both traditional dentures as well as implant supported or retained dentures. We pride ourselves on providing our denture patients with the most comfortable and realistic looking false teeth possible. We examine each patient individually to determine the best procedure for his or her particular case. The Altadontic dentures are an option for many, which reduces the number of goopy impressions and dentures can be “cloned”. Cloning of a denture allows us to make and retain a mold of the denture so it can be remade in the future. This is great for elderly patients comfortable with their current denture or patients that frequently lose their dentures.
Root Canals (Endodontics)
A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. When a tooth's nerve tissue or pulp is damaged, it breaks down and bacteria begin to multiply within the pulp chamber. The bacteria and other decayed debris can cause an infection or abscessed tooth. During a root canal procedure the pulp (nerve and blood supply) is removed from the center of the tooth and a root canal filler is placed. After most root canal procedures a crown will be needed to restore the tooth.
If you or your children have teeth that are rotated, crooked or malpositioned we would be happy to help coordinate your treatment between our team and a local orthodontist we think is best suited to treat your case. We recommend that children are seen for a specific orthodontic screening appointment at age 7. Many times it is easier to prevent a problem than trying to fix it later.
The gums and the underlying bone form the foundation for a healthy mouth. Even with ideal brushing and flossing, plaque and tartar can accumulate near the gum line and between teeth. The bacteria found in plaque and tartar causes inflammation of the gums. This is why your gums may bleed when you floss. The more you floss the less bacteria and the less bleeding. Inflammation of the gums starts as the mildest form of gum disease – gingivitis. As the process worsens, the bone that anchors the teeth in the jaws begins to recede – periodontitis. Advanced gum disease can lead to tooth loss. Regular visits to our dental hygienists bring your gums back to health and keep you smiling. Our gentle and caring team offers a range of services to help you achieve and maintain your oral and overall health.
TMJ (Jaw Joint) Disorders
Many people suffer with an undiagnosed TMJ disorder. TMJ symptoms can vary greatly and can be very difficult to diagnose. They may include any or all of the following symptoms:
If you have one or more of these symptoms and an underlying medical condition has not been diagnosed, you may be suffering from TMJ Disorder.
A properly fitting mouth guard is of BIG importance to East Milton Dental!
Dr. Regan grew up playing men’s hockey and went on to Captain Colby College’s Women’s hockey team. She has worn her share of mouth guards and understands why many mouth guards’ spend more time tucked in the corner of cages or in gloves than in mouths!
Wearing an over the counter “boil and bite” mouth guard is uncomfortable and even dangerous.
Studies have shown that wearing a custom made mouth guard fabricated by a dental office can prevent or greatly reduce tooth damage or loss, decrease jaw fractures, reduce TMJ problems and damage to lips tongue and cheeks. Preliminary studies have also shown that properly fitting mouth guards may greatly decrease the severity of concussions.
A mouth guard only works if you wear it! East Milton Dental custom fits the mouth guards to make them as comfortable and non-obtrusive as possible. A custom fit, comfortable mouth guard that doesn’t get in the way of the athletes performance is more likely to be worn.
We also customize the guards with players names, mascots jersey numbers etc.
Mouth guards are so important to East Milton Dental that we make them very affordable to all athletes (patients or not) and all current patients get their first one free!
